MAN, Chinese investors partner to develop SMEs

The Manufactures Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun State chapter, is collaborating with Wenzhou, a group of investors from China, in a bid to promote and develop the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Exchange Business Forum held at the association’s secretariat in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, the Chairman of the association, Dr. Dayo Oguntuga, represented by Alhaji Rafiu Anifowose, Human Resources Manager, affirmed that the relationship being forged by MAN nad the Chinese firm would go a long way in strengthening the industrial base of both country, Nigeria especially.

He observed that it would be difficult for the country to attain a level of self-sufficiency if it continues to focus on importation alone.

His words, “There is no two ways to it, when we are talking about the GDP of a county, it is based on the amount of goods you are able to produce; not what you can market. We cannot continue to be a dependent nation, thus the need for us to increase our production capacity.”

He admonished the Nigeria government at all levels to boost their efforts towards developing and improving the entrepreneurship project in the country by making available loans and subsidies that will increase interest in producing effective and efficient made-in-Nigeria products.

Dr. Oguntuga, therefore, urged the participant at the forum to take the advantage of the partnership in other to have the needed technological expertise that the Chinese are introducing into the Nigerian SMEs.

In his own address, Vice President, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Wenzhou branch, Mr. Chen Qi, said they are very happy to do business with Nigerian as he promised to be of help to any MAN member or Nigerian that have interest in doing business in China.

“If any Nigerian individual go to China for business, and they encounter any problem, they can contact us for help,” he affirmed.

He added that they want to be producing and rendering products and services which include foot wears, clothes, plastics making and pharmaceuticals which they believed is going to impact both the expertise and the economic life of the people of Ogun State and Nigeria in general.

Other area promised to invest in by the Chinese are in the production of electrical appliances, handcraft, wire cable production, ceramics and construction,n as well as building materials.

The leaders of the Chinese crew present at the event are; Huang Jian, the Minister China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Wenzhou branch, Jian Lijun, Deputy Director General and Wang Xiulam principal staff member.
