ABAKALIKI – EBONYI State government yesterday denied insinuations in some quarters that it was planning to suspend implementation of the N18, 000 National Minimum Wage in the yet-to-be presented 2013 budget of the state.

Addressing newsmen, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Onyekachi Eni, described the insinuations as false and a calculated attempt by mischief makers to create anxiety and industrial disharmony among workers in the state.

He assured workers of the state government’s preparedness to continue the implementation of the National Minimum Wage, in spite of its low financial profile, stressing that no worker in the state was being
paid less than N18, 000 monthly in line with the new wage law in the country.

He said:  “Accordingly, the insinuation that the state government is contemplating a suspension of the implementation is not only false but also a calculated attempt to create anxiety among the workers and to instigate industrial disharmony in the state.

“I want to assure the entire workforce that the state government has no intention of suspending the implementation of the new minimum wage, in spite of its low financial profile.”
