ASABA—DELTA State Police Command, yesterday, charged two persons to Akwukwu-Igbo Magistrate court, in Oshimili North Local Government Area, for allegedly assaulting the Administrative Manager of Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Victor Gotevbe.
They also allegedly attacked a police officer, Mr. Jeffery Omoregbe, and others working at the company’s printing press site at Okpanam, near Asaba, the state capital.
The accused persons, Messrs Augustine Igbinedion, 32, and Ezechie Okonkwo, 30 in the eight-count charge preferred against them in the charge No. AKM/20C/212, are also facing trial for alleged theft of two handsets, two cutlasses, a wrist watch and twelve shovels, valued at N52,000, belonging to one Ibrahim Usman and his co-workers.
They were also accused of hitting one Sam Egborongbe and Ibrahim Usman and his co-workers with shovels and cutlasses, among other offences.
Their counsel, Mr. C. F. Ebu, urged the court to grant the accused persons bail.
Granting them bail at the cost of N70,000 each, with reasonable surety, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Ogbogwu, told the surety, Mr Dennis Ezechie, to present two of his passport photographs to the court.
Reiterating that the bail application would only be perfected based on a written recommendation of the court, she adjourned the matter to November 15, for hearing.
