Yenagoa – Three women who were displaced by flood, Tuesday, gave birth to three bouncing baby boys at the Samson Siasia Stadium, one of the many relief camps in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital.
The women, who delivered at separate times, were reportedly attended to by camp doctors before they were transferred to the Federal Medical Centre for better medical attention.
The women, who are reportedly doing well with their babies, expressed gratitude to God for safe delivery and also lauded the state government for providing them shelter.
One of the nursing mothers, Mrs. Irene Amos, 26, an indigene of Biseni, in Yenagoa Local Government Area, said she moved into the camp about a month ago when flood sacked her from her home and community, adding that she would name her baby, “God is great” in appreciation of God’s intervention in her life.
Also speaking, one of the camp doctors who attended to the women, Dr. Raymond Duru, described insufficient drugs as a major challenge faced by the team of doctors in the relief camp and called on the state government to provide beds, drugs, chairs and other working materials at the treatment centres in the camp.
Meanwhile, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, leader of Salvation Ministry Church, has donated relief materials worth thousands of naira to the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, in Bayelsa State.
The Yenagoa branch of the church donated 30 bags of rice, 18 bags of beans, six bags of garri and five gallons of palm oil to the flood victims at the Sports Complex, Yenagoa.
Relief Camp One Coordinator, Nikki Maworuya said the church also donated treated mosquito nets and blankets to the victims.
