Immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Oluseyi Olusegun Petinrin Friday warned the military against indulging in violent change of the nation’s leadership noting that no matter the level of disagreement and political brickbats, or shortcomings, the Nigeria’s progress lies in democracy.
Speaking in Abuja at the pulling out parade to mark his retirement from the Nigerian Armed Forces after 38 years, Petinrin reminded his former colleagues how the military suffered untold neglect under military dictatorship and told them that “great national problems are not for your professional participation or military solution”.
Lamenting how the glory of the military that placed it on the global scene was eroded by military intervention due to neglect until sanity was restored with the emergence of democracy in 1999, the former CDS praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo, late President Umaru Yar Adua and the incumbent, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for improving the lot of the armed forces .
