ONITSHA—Progressive Peoples Alliance in Anambra State, weekend said non of its members has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party as reported in the media.
Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Anthony Igboka, who spoke with Vanguard, said the purported defection by some state and local government party executives led by the former South East chairman of the party, Chief Austin Ndigwe was false and a calculated attempt to deflate the already intimidating posture of the PPA in the state by some political jobbers.
Igboka’s reaction followed the defection of some politicians from the PPA led by its former South East zonal Chairman, Ndigwe who claimed that he defected to the PDP in Awka with some executive members of the PPA.
“ I want to tell you that most of those who defected to the PDP on Saturday are charlatans and hired thugs. You have only about two persons who are really PPA members, others have no PPA membership cards and if they have, well the zonal chairman who is in position of the cards may have issued them with the cards for that purpose.
And I tell you that if you look at the cards you will observe that they were not signed by the national chairman,†he said.
He said the few people that were PPA members were not even committed members of the party in the real sense of it, saying that those who had remained committed to the party will continue to be committed to the party.
“ Our zonal chairman has been making that move before now, so he can not say that he defected because of Soludo. His plan to leave PPA did not start today and we are neither surprised nor shaken by his exit from our party,†he said.
