Chiejine tips Flamingoes to shine

By Eddie Akalonu
Coach Ann Chiejine has expressed high hopes that the national female U-17 team will prove their mettle at the FIFA World Cup in Azerbaijan by not only doing as well as their seniors, the national U-20 did in the recently concluded championship in Japan but also surpassing the quarter final berth they achieved in the last edition in Trinidad and Tobago in 2010.

The former Super Falcons goalkeeper, who spoke in Lagos, said the cadets have what it takes to set the country into celebration mood again, adding however, that the players must put in more efforts and work as a team.

“Well they must realise that the country now appreciates excellence in sports,” she said adding, “I think they have the capacity to make history for themselves and the country by going all the way because Nigeria is still one of the best in the game.

It will be tough at each stage and I regard our team as having the experience to go all the way to the final and achieve the best. A team with their type of experience have the capacity to get good result. But they must believe in themselves and put their mind to it from the onset,” she emphasised.
