ABUJA – The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked the publication (not Vanguard) alleging that the CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi had told the Senate that his life was in danger.

The publication also attributed to the Governor “how a business associate of one of the sacked bank Managing Directors gave out loans in two separate payments to two of his friends, (and that) the bank chief had given out the loans to a friend who said he would refund it in less than one week”.

The apex bank’s spokesman, M.M. Abdullahi stated that the CBN Governor did not tell the Senate that his life was in danger and indeed has never received any threat to his safety on account of the on-going reforms.

According to him, “It is worthy of note that the Senate spokesperson, Senator Ayogu Eze, made no reference to this false claim in his briefing.

It is also important to note that the Senator, in relating the information given at this meeting, did not attribute any quote to either the Governor of the CBN or the Chairman of EFCC, and as such any such attribution is at best speculative and at worst mischievous.
