London Lamine Diack, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) President, has expressed delight at having a full house at the opening session of the  2012 Olympic Games’ athletics competition.

The competition in the sport began on Friday, the Games’ eighth official day, with the Olympic Stadium in London full of spectators.

It was wonderful for me, to arrive at the Games’ venue this (Friday) morning and find a totally packed stadium for athletics first session. I can’t remember the last time we had such,’’ Diack said.

The Senegalese, however, lauded the hosts as well as the organisers for doing a good job to facilitate the full house.

“It shows the great affection Britain has for our sport. Moreover, LOCOG (the London Olympic Committee of the Olympic Games) has done a great job.

“We are excited about what will happen at the rest of the athletics programme in the days to come since the athletes will definitely be inspired into great performances by crowds like this,’’ he said.
