Senate advocates more funding for agencies

By Joseph Erunke

Senate, yesterday, frowned at what it called Federal Government’s poor funding of its agencies. The Senate said there was no way the government can achieve its reformation dream if there were no positive changes in the implementation of budgets to enable agencies have funds to run their affairs smoothly.

Senate Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity, stated this while on an oversight function to the corporate headquarters of National Directorate of Employment, NDE, in Abuja.

The committee’s Chairman, Senator Wilson Ake, said he was disappointed at the poor funding of NDE in view of its enormous challenges.

He urged government to immediately release more money to the agency to achieve its objectives of empowering the unemployed.

He said: “We call for timely release of funds, as captured in the budget, to enable NDE achieve its mandate.”
