Glo records 23.18m active subscribers as Nigeria’s mobile base rises

Latest industry figures show continued expansion in mobile access, with Globacom retaining a significant mass-market customer base.

Globacom recorded 23,178,597 active subscribers in April 2026 as Nigeria’s total active mobile subscriptions rose to 188,009,171, according to telecommunications industry data reported from the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.

The April data reflected continued demand for mobile voice and internet services after the industry’s recent subscriber-data corrections. Teledensity increased to 86.73 per cent, while broadband subscriptions rose to 120.68 million.

For Globacom, the current base represents a sizeable platform for renewed growth in data, youth services, small-business connectivity and customer retention as the company approaches its 23rd anniversary in August.

The operator has historically competed on affordability and mass-market relevance. Its recent Talkmasta tariff and enhanced welcome bonus continue that positioning by offering additional call minutes, data and onboarding value to new and existing customers.

The next phase of subscriber competition is expected to focus less on SIM distribution and more on active usage, network quality and the ability to convert customers into regular users of broadband and digital services. The NIN-SIM linkage exercise and the removal of inactive records have made verified activity a more important measure of market strength.

Glo’s 23.18 million active subscriptions therefore provide both scale and a clearer strategic base. Analysts of the sector are likely to watch whether the company can deepen usage among existing customers while improving service experience and expanding its relevance in Nigeria’s fast-growing broadband economy.
