Some ward, local government, zonal and state executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi West Senatorial District have appealed to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to review issues surrounding the emergence of the party’s senatorial candidate for the 2027 general election.
In a petition dated July 6, 2026, and addressed to the APC National Chairman, the party officials expressed support for Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro, whom they said emerged from the party’s primary election, and requested that the leadership clarify the process that led to reports naming Senator Sunday Karimi as the party’s candidate.
The petition, signed by Kogi West Zonal Chairman Hon. Aledare Emmanuel Ayo, APC Deputy State Chairman Hon. Aliyu Salihu, and State Youth Leader Hon. Buhari Lokoja on behalf of the executives, urged the party to address the concerns in the interest of unity and cohesion within the district.
According to the petitioners, Aro was declared winner of the senatorial primary election conducted by the party, and they appealed to the APC leadership to uphold what they described as the outcome of the exercise.
They also stated that they were not aware of any formal appeal or legal process challenging the primary election and called on the party to ensure that its internal procedures were followed in resolving any issues relating to the nomination.
The executives further appealed to the National Working Committee to look into the concerns raised in the petition and take any necessary steps it considers appropriate to strengthen confidence in the party’s internal processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Copies of the petition were also sent to the APC National Secretary, the party’s National Legal Adviser, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
