ESUT students seek Mbah’s intervention over SUG election concerns

Students of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have appealed to Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, to facilitate a review of the ongoing Students’ Union Government (SUG) electoral process ahead of the election scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

In a statement made available to journalists, the students requested an independent review of the screening exercise, saying they believe it would strengthen confidence in the electoral process.

According to the statement, some aspirants were disqualified during the screening exercise. The students appealed for a review of the decisions to ensure that all candidates were assessed in line with the applicable electoral guidelines.

They also urged the university administration to continue to ensure that the election is conducted in a transparent, fair and credible manner.

The students said a review before the election would help build confidence in the process and reassure the university community of its integrity.

They further referred to issues surrounding the previous SUG election, stating that these had contributed to calls among some students for greater transparency in the conduct of union elections.

The statement also noted that the disqualification of one of the presidential aspirants, Ngene Israel, popularly known as YUNGDAY, had generated discussion among students, with some calling for a reconsideration of the screening outcome.

The students appealed to Governor Mbah to support efforts aimed at ensuring that the electoral process commands the confidence of the student community and that the eventual outcome reflects the will of eligible voters.
