A prominent Niger Delta leader and Mayor of Urhoboland, Dr. Eshanekpe Agimor Israel (popularly known as Akpodoro), has sent congratulatory message to retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa, describing his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a masterstroke in the nation’s anti terror war.

In a statement sent to Vanguard over the weekend, Mayor Akpodoro, who also doubles as the Head of the Association of Urhobo Mayoral Family Crown (AUMFC), praised President Tinubu’s foresight in headhunting the retired army general. He noted that bringing Famadewa out of retirement underscores the administration’s commitment to utilizing the nation’s finest minds to combat lingering insecurity.

According to the Urhobo Mayor, General Famadewa represents a breed of excellence-driven public servants whose operational experience will inject fresh vigor into the country’s defensive and offensive capabilities against asymmetrical threats.

In a strategic move to fortify Nigeria’s domestic security architecture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Famadewa as the Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security.
“The appointment,” which has sent waves of optimism across the nation’s security corridors, Akpodoro described “as a decisive step toward streamlining domestic intelligence, counter-terrorism efforts, and internal national safety.”

According to the Gbaregolor, Ughelli South Local Government Area-born former warlord, said “the introduction of a specialized Homeland Security portfolio under the Presidency is a modern approach to managing complex, multi-dimensional domestic threats.”

Speaking on concerns regarding potential duplication of duties, Mayor Akpodoro stated, “the office of the Special Adviser on Homeland Security is designed to complement, rather than conflict with, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).”
“While the ONSA oversees the broader macro-national security policy and foreign intelligence, the Homeland Security portfolio is expected to focus heavily on domestic intelligence aggregation particularly on critical infrastructure protection including pipelines, rail, and digital grids, border security and internal anti-terrorism campaigns.

The Mayor urged Inter-agency collaboration among civilian paramilitary forces adding: “With General Famadewa at the helm of Homeland Security, his position will seamlessly complement the National Security Adviser.
“This structural synergy will yield immediate, impactful results in our ongoing counter-insurgency and anti-terrorism campaigns,” Akpodoro stated.

Mayor Akpodoro made a passionate appeal to the leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and paramilitary agencies to accord General Famadewa maximum co-operation.
“Security requires team effort,” Akpodoro remarked, adding, “General Adeyinka Famadewa is a top-notch security expert and a proven team leader. He possesses the intellectual and tactical wealth of experience needed to impact our national security architecture positively. However, the system must support him to succeed.”

Mayor Akpodoro reiterated, “traditional institutions and youth structures of the Niger Delta, particularly Urhoboland, are fully aligned with the Federal Government’s security agenda,” stressing “a secure homeland is the bedrock of economic prosperity and sustainable development.”
