The Female Freelancers Network [FFN] will host its July financial literacy webinar titled “Beyond Thrift, Money is Wealth Generation” today at 1:00 PM WAT on Zoom.

While hosted by FFN, the webinar is open to everyone. Men and women, students, professionals, business owners, and anyone interested in personal finance are invited to attend. The session is free, but registration is compulsory to receive Zoom access.

The webinar will address a challenge many people face: understanding how investments work. The session will break down concepts such as bonds, mutual funds, treasury bills, and shares in clear language, and explain how money can earn interest rather than remain idle in a savings account. Participants will also learn how to choose an investment approach that fits their income level, no matter how small.

To illustrate the long-term impact of investing, FFN will share the story of a 28-year-old man who recently discovered an investment his father made for him in 1998. The funds, which become accessible in 2028, are now valued at ₦4.21 billion. FFN says the case reflects how early and consistent financial planning can create wealth that benefits future generations.

“Too many people are excellent at earning or saving, but were never taught how to make money grow,” said Ifunanya Ndigwe, Acting Communication Manager of the Female Freelancers Network. “This conversation is for anyone who wants to move from simply saving to intentionally building wealth. You do not need to be a freelancer or to have large capital to start.”

Facilitating the session is guest speaker Ruth Eso, a Business Data Analyst based in the United Kingdom. Ruth holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics and a Master’s degree in Economics and Finance. She currently supports organisations in the UK to use data for better decision-making, operational improvement, and growth.

Before relocating, she worked for over three years as an Account Executive in Nigeria. Ruth is also passionate about financial literacy and empowerment, and as a mother of three, she emphasises the importance of building financial security for families.

“As a person, I understand why it matters to create financial security and wealth that lasts beyond us,” said Ruth Eso. “This webinar will give practical steps that anyone can apply now, regardless of their income or background.”

The webinar will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM WAT on Zoom. Attendance is free and open to the public, but registration is required to access the link.

Female Freelancers Network [FFN], formerly known as the Female Freelancers Federation [FFF], is a platform dedicated to giving freelancers, especially women, a voice, a community, and a platform to shine and thrive.

FFN is a network of like-minded professionals where resources are shared, collaborations are formed, and industry veterans provide mentorship and practical guidance. While the community started with a strong focus on journalists, it is now open to freelancers and professionals across different fields who are building careers in the digital economy.

At its core, FFN exists to close the gap between earning income and building long-term financial independence. Many talented people freelance to survive, but few have access to the skills, networks, and financial literacy needed to scale, invest, and create wealth that lasts.

To deliver on this mission, FFN organises a monthly media exposé every last Thursday of the month. The sessions bring mentors to speak on relevant topics and encourage freelancers seeking to make an impact locally and globally. Since its inception in April 2023, over 500 persons have been trained through these exposés.

Early sessions set the tone for the network’s focus on growth. The first facilitator was Mr. Lekan Otofodunrin, a Media Career Development Specialist, who spoke on Tips on Investment as a Freelance Journalist. Other exposés have included Becoming a Global Journalist; Gaining Global Relevance via Pitching; and The Rudiments of Pitching and Winning with Madam Joke Kujenya and Madam Juliana Francis. Esther Ijewere, a renowned Nigerian-Canadian journalist and PR specialist, has also facilitated sessions on Mental Health and Well-being of Journalists, Navigating AI and Journalism, Digital Security, and Your Brand Your Worth.

Beyond journalism, FFN has hosted guests on a range of topical issues, including finance, personal development, and professional growth.

FFN’s goal is to serve as a hub where journalists and other professionals can access mentorship, resources, and the confidence to move from gig work to sustainable careers, businesses, and generational wealth.
