FUTATH to conduct mop-up biometric for eligible workers, inaugurates pioneer HODs

The Federal University Teaching Hospital, Akure, FUTATH, in Ondo state, has announced a mop-up biometric capture for eligible workers who missed the initial verification exercise.

It also inaugurated its pioneer Heads of Departments, Heads of Units, and Management Committees to strengthen its administrative structure.

The foundation Chief Medical Director, CMD, Professor Olusegun Ojo, said in Akure, the state capital, that arrangements have been concluded for the mop-up exercise to capture approved staff who were unable to participate in the recently concluded verification.

Ojo said the exercise is required for workers’ migration to the Federal Government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.

He explained that the initial biometric exercise was disrupted by misinformation that every worker in the hospital would automatically be absorbed into Federal Government service.

“The takeover of staff is guided by the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the Federal Government’s acquisition of the hospital, which stipulates that only workers who met the approved criteria would be absorbed,” he said.

According to the CMD, the approved nominal roll was compiled after verification by the Federal Ministry of Health, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Budget Office, and Office of the Accountant-General before biometric capture commenced.

Poor communication, he added, also prevented some approved staff from receiving notifications.

Ojo assured affected workers that the mop-up would capture all eligible personnel on the approved list. Completion of the exercise is a prerequisite for processing salaries under the federal payroll.

He expressed optimism that absorbed workers would receive their first federal salaries by the end of August, after delays caused by the disruption.

The CMD commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for providing logistics, accommodation, security, and other support during the verification, and for sustaining salary payments through the transition.

FUTATH formally inaugurated its pioneer HODs, Heads of Units, and Management Committees. Ojo described the appointments as a major milestone in implementing the Federal Government-approved organogram for teaching hospitals.

He said the new structure would strengthen administration, improve accountability, and enhance service delivery.

He urged the appointees to act as servants, not overlords, and stressed professionalism, teamwork, transparency, and dedication to quality healthcare.

Ojo highlighted the role of the hospital’s SERVICOM Unit, urging the public to send complaints via phone, WhatsApp, and email to improve service delivery.

He acknowledged infrastructure gaps including inadequate office furniture, unreliable water and electricity, obsolete diagnostic equipment, and shortage of medical facilities.

He appealed to development partners, philanthropists, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the hospital, saying government resources alone cannot meet its expanding healthcare needs.
