Nigerian-founded Houston Beauty Salon creates 200 jobs in two years — Jalia Nassolo

HOUSTON, TEXAS — A Houston-based luxury beauty salon founded by Nigerian entrepreneur Jalia Nassolo has created approximately 200 jobs within two years of its establishment.

Nassolo, founder and Chief Executive Officer of America’s Express Braiders LLC, which operates as Jalia Walda Salon, disclosed this in a statement highlighting the company’s growth and impact on workforce development in Houston’s beauty industry.

According to Nassolo, the salon, located on Hillcroft Street in Houston, has grown rapidly since its launch in 2024, employing about 200 beauty professionals and support staff while creating economic opportunities for women, particularly within immigrant and minority communities.

She said the business was established with the dual objective of delivering premium beauty services while creating employment and developing skilled professionals in the beauty sector.

Nassolo explained that the salon offers a broad range of services, including luxury hair braiding, knotless braids, boho braids, tribal braids, wig installation, nail care, makeup, eyelash extensions, facials, skincare, waxing and beauty consultations.

According to her, the diversity of services has enabled the company to recruit professionals with varied skills, creating employment across multiple areas of the beauty industry.

She also highlighted the salon’s luxury express braiding system, describing it as an innovation designed to provide high-quality braiding services in less time than traditional appointments through a coordinated team-based approach.

Nassolo said the salon has become particularly recognised for its knotless, boho and tribal braids, which have helped attract repeat clients and strengthen its visibility on social media platforms.

She added that the company has invested significantly in its digital presence through TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, using the platforms to reach new customers and build its brand.

Beyond direct employment, Nassolo said the salon has implemented mentorship and training programmes for aspiring beauty professionals.

According to her, dozens of trainees have received practical instruction and professional development through the salon, with several establishing independent careers and businesses in the beauty industry.

She said the company views workforce development as a core aspect of its business model rather than simply an operational requirement.

Looking ahead, Nassolo said the salon plans to expand its operations by increasing service capacity, enhancing its digital booking infrastructure and introducing its own beauty product lines.

She added that the company’s long-term vision includes establishing beauty academies, exploring franchising opportunities and expanding into international markets.

Nassolo said the salon’s growth demonstrates how entrepreneurship, innovation and investment in people can contribute to economic development and community empowerment.
