The Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen transport training, research, innovation and road safety in Nigeria.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, and the Director-General of NITT, Dr Bayero Farah, is expected to enhance capacity development, specialised training, technology-driven learning, driver education and knowledge exchange in the country’s transport sector.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mohammed described the partnership as a significant milestone that would improve professional standards and institutional capacity while supporting efforts to build a safer and more efficient transportation system.

He said the MoU would strengthen research, modernise driver training centres, promote ICT-driven learning and develop transport professionals capable of addressing emerging mobility and road safety challenges.

According to him, although the FRSC and NITT have maintained a long-standing working relationship, the formal agreement provides a structured framework for expanding collaboration and accelerating reforms in the transport sector.

He added that the partnership would move beyond ceremonial commitments to practical implementation aimed at improving transport administration and road safety nationwide.

In his remarks, the Director-General of NITT, Farah, commended the FRSC for its commitment to the successful conclusion of the agreement.

He said the objective of the MoU was to align transport education, professional training and research in Nigeria with global best practices while producing skilled manpower to support sustainable national development.

The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer of AAI, Ahmed Abdelhafaz, and the Chairman of AAI, Ejike Njeze, among others.

The partnership is expected to deepen collaboration between both institutions in research, innovation, human capital development and road safety initiatives across the country.
