The former Commonwealth and British Light Heavyweight boxing champion, Peter Oboh, has expressed sadness over the passing of his in-law, Gary Leonard.

In a statement on Tuesday, Peter Oboh said Leonard died on June 12, and that funeral and cremation is today, June 30, at Reading Crematorium, South Chapel, Reading, the United Kingdom.

According to Oboh, “I want to use this opportunity to say my last goodbyes to Gary Kevin Leonard, who passed away in his 60s from cancer. He was too young to die.

“My siblings and I are greatly saddened by Gary’s passing – too young. We lost a brother to cancer less than three years ago, which makes it more painful.

“The truth is that my sister, Mabel Oboh and their three sons – Magnus Leonard, Jason  Leonard and Ralph Leonard – are heartbroken because Gary was really a kind-hearted father to them.

“One great truth is that cancer is one of the biggest killers in the world today, if not second to Benjamin Netanyahu’s regular bombardment of Gaza and Lebanon, killing a lot of innocent people every day.

“I am pleading with King Charles III to encourage, and mobilise, more funds for cancer research in Britain and the world at large.

“The truth is that King Charles’ has a strong voice in the global scene. Also, he is a cancer survivor. Therefore, we must work together to fight this demonic killer called cancer.”
