The Sudan Peace Government has called for the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors to enable civilians trapped by ongoing fighting in El Obeid to evacuate to safer locations.
In a statement issued on Friday, the government’s Council of Ministers said it was working with international partners to secure protected routes that would allow residents wishing to leave the conflict-hit city to access safety, legal protection and humanitarian assistance.
The statement, signed by the Minister of Information and Official Spokesperson of the Peace Government, Khalid Danaa, said the administration was closely monitoring ongoing discussions with the international community on measures to protect civilians and improve humanitarian access.
“The Peace Government reiterates its call for the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors that would enable civilians wishing to leave El Obeid to reach secure areas where they can enjoy safety, legal protection and humanitarian assistance,” the statement said.
According to the government, discussions with international partners are focused on protecting civilians, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid and creating safe evacuation routes for those affected by the conflict.
The Peace Government also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted and impartial delivery of humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations.
It said it would continue working in coordination with the United Nations and regional organisations to facilitate and safeguard relief operations for civilians in need. The statement was reported by Atalayar.com.
