APGA Reps candidate, Thankgod Ibeh, laments repeated vandalised billboard in Amuwo-Odofin

APGA Reps candidate, Thankgod Ibeh, laments repeated vandalised billboard in Amuwo-Odofin

The campaign billboard of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) House of Representatives candidate, Honourable Thankgod Kenechukwu Christopher Ibeh, has been vandalised for the second time in Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency.

Ibeh visited the site and expressed disappointment over the repeated destruction of his campaign materials.

He said: “It is so disheartening and heartbreaking that all the efforts I have been making so far in Amuwo-Odofin to showcase my billboard are being frustrated. This is the second time we are mounting this billboard. They destroyed the first one, we erected another one, and they have destroyed it again.”

The candidate called for peaceful political engagement, adding: “If you know you have capacity, come out and tell the people what you can do for them instead of fighting my billboard. We have not even started official campaigns. If this is happening now, how are people expected to believe there will be a free and fair election?”

The Director-General of the Thankgod Kenechukwu Campaign Organisation and Lagos State Secretary of APGA, Comrade Ololade Johnson, also condemned the incident, describing it as an attack on democratic competition.

“It is so disheartening that in modern-day democracy, opposition has suddenly become a threat,” he said.

Johnson argued that democracy thrives on healthy political competition and maintained that APGA has remained a peaceful political party in Lagos State.

“It is not a crime that we are contesting this election to change the narrative for the people of Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency,” he said.

“If opposition voices begin to experience intimidation even before campaigns officially begin, one begins to wonder what the actual election period would look like.”

He further noted that while other political billboards remain standing across the constituency, APGA’s campaign materials have allegedly become repeated targets.

Within APGA circles, supporters believe the repeated attacks on Ibeh’s campaign materials demonstrate growing concern among political rivals over his increasing visibility and grassroots acceptance across Amuwo-Odofin.

While political opponents may dispute that interpretation, the destruction of campaign materials for a candidate months before official campaigns has inevitably drawn public attention to his candidacy.

The development has drawn attention to the political atmosphere in Amuwo-Odofin ahead of the 2027 general elections, with calls for peaceful and civil conduct among all political actors.
