MubuyWallet, a Nigerian bill payment platform, is helping address one of the country’s most common digital payment challenges through its Airtime Swap service, giving users a simple way to convert excess airtime into cash.

In a country where millions of people rely on mobile networks for communication, business, and everyday transactions, purchasing the wrong airtime amount or receiving airtime that cannot be used is a common occurrence. For many Nigerians, such mistakes often mean losing money because there are few reliable options for recovering its value.

To bridge that gap, MubuyWallet launched its Airtime Swap service in January 2025. What began as an additional feature on the company’s bill payment platform has grown into one of its fastest-growing services, allowing customers across Nigeria to convert eligible airtime into cash through both its website and WhatsApp channel.

Since its launch, MubuyWallet has processed more than 70,000 airtime swap transactions as of June 2026. Most requests are completed within 10 minutes, reflecting the company’s commitment to speed, transparency, and customer satisfaction while continuously improving its service delivery.

Behind MubuyWallet is Mubarak Akorede, a 24-year-old Economics Education student and software developer whose passion for technology inspired him to build practical digital solutions for Nigerians. Although he has developed several software applications over the years, MubuyWallet has become his most significant venture because of its direct impact on everyday users.

According to Akorede, the idea behind MubuyWallet was driven by a desire to solve real problems rather than simply build another digital platform.

“Many Nigerians have experienced buying excess airtime or receiving airtime they didn’t intend to purchase. Instead of allowing that value to go to waste, we created a solution that enables users to convert eligible airtime into cash quickly and conveniently while also accessing other essential digital services from one platform,” he said.

Beyond Airtime Swap, MubuyWallet provides a range of bill payment and digital services, enabling customers to purchase airtime and data, pay electricity bills, subscribe to cable television services, and complete other everyday transactions conveniently through a single platform.

As Nigeria’s digital economy continues to expand, customer expectations for speed, reliability, and transparency have become increasingly important. Akorede believes technology companies must focus on solving genuine problems while earning the trust of the people they serve.

“Building trust is just as important as building technology. Every successful transaction strengthens our relationship with customers, and that is why we continue investing in better systems, faster processing, and improved customer experience,” he added.

With more than 70,000 Airtime Swap transactions processed in less than two years, MubuyWallet is steadily strengthening its position within Nigeria’s digital services industry. The company says it remains committed to expanding its offerings, improving operational efficiency, and delivering reliable digital payment solutions to customers across the country.

For Akorede, entrepreneurship is about creating lasting value through innovation. As demand for digital financial services continues to grow, he believes platforms like MubuyWallet will play an increasingly important role in making everyday transactions simpler, faster, and more accessible for Nigerians.
