The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, is expected to lead other stakeholders in the security sector at the Gallant Officers Recognition & Welfare Initiative 2026, a virtual programme organised by Naija Police & U (Naijapoliceu) to promote the welfare and post-service wellbeing of serving and retired police officers.

The event, themed ‘Life After Police: Building Purpose, Welfare and Opportunities Beyond Service,’ will hold virtually  on Tuesday, June 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Organisers said the initiative is aimed at recognising officers who have distinguished themselves in service while providing a platform to discuss retirement planning, career transition, financial stability and sustainable livelihood opportunities for police personnel.

Project Coordinator of the initiative, Mrs Chioma Okezie, said the programme was conceived to address the realities many police officers face after retirement.

According to her, “While officers dedicate the most productive years of their lives to protecting the nation, many are often left to grapple with uncertainty once they leave active service. We believe it is important to begin preparing officers for life beyond the uniform long before retirement.”

She added that the programme would provide practical knowledge on career transition, financial planning, investment opportunities and personal development, while creating a platform for mentorship and engagement between serving officers, retirees and professionals from different sectors.

In addition, she said “We also want to recognise gallant officers who have distinguished themselves through courage, professionalism and dedication to duty. This initiative is about giving back to those who have given so much in the service of the nation and ensuring they have the support and opportunities needed to build purposeful and sustainable lives after retirement,” Okezie said.

Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Abiodun Alabi, is expected to deliver a keynote presentation on “Life After Police: Building Purpose, Welfare and Opportunities Beyond Service.” Also billed to speak are : Chairperson  of Transworld Security Systems Ltd., Dr Victoria Ekhomu, who will address participants on “Transitioning from Active Service to Retirement,” and real estate and investment consultant and Dr Obinna AzoNobi, who will speak on “Beyond the Uniform: Leveraging Real Estate for Long-Term Financial Stability.”

According to the organisers, the initiative aligns with Naija Police & U’s commitment to promoting positive policing, strengthening police-community relations and recognising officers who have demonstrated courage, professionalism and dedication to national service.

They called on serving and retired police officers, security experts, corporate organisations, welfare advocates and members of the public to participate in the virtual event, which is expected to generate practical solutions to challenges confronting officers beyond active service.
