The Delta State branch of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has reaffirmed its support for the union’s national leadership led by National President Shehu Mohammed, saying the leadership dispute is still before the Court of Appeal.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued after an expanded emergency meeting of the branch’s Unit Executive Committee (UEC).

According to the communiqué, the appeal followed the April 15, 2026 judgment of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN). The branch said a Motion for Stay of Execution and a substantive appeal had been filed, adding that it believes the leadership dispute has not been finally determined.

The Delta branch said it supports the continuation of the current national leadership under National President Shehu Mohammed and Secretary-General Joshua Apebo pending the outcome of the appeal.

The communiqué also stated that the branch does not recognise the caretaker committee headed by Comrade Innocent Bola-Audu, describing its position as being based on its interpretation of the union’s constitution while the appeal remains pending.

The branch further said it believes the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has not withdrawn recognition of Mohammed’s leadership and noted his continued participation in national labour engagements.

At the state level, the Delta branch reaffirmed its confidence in the State Executive Committee led by Henry Adim Okafor, describing it as the duly elected leadership of the union in the state.

The communiqué stated that the branch supports the continued administration of the state chapter by the current executive pending the resolution of the national leadership dispute.

The branch also noted that it was not a party to the litigation at the national level and said it believes its state structure should remain unaffected until the legal process is concluded.

Reiterating its position, the Delta branch urged members to remain calm and await the judgment of the Court of Appeal on the leadership dispute.

Members at the meeting also passed a vote of confidence in the Henry Okafor-led executive and pledged continued cooperation with the Delta State Government in promoting industrial harmony.
