The Senate Minority Leader and lawmaker representing Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro, has expressed sympathy with residents of Odoba Ogaje community in Otukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State, following a devastating flood that destroyed homes and property on Sunday night.

According to reports, the flood occurred after a heavy downpour in the community, which is located along the Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu highway.

The flooding reportedly affected several homes, churches, roads, farmlands and schools, while properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed.

In a statement by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel John, Senator Moro described the incident as unfortunate and heartbreaking.

The Senate Minority Leader said he stands in solidarity with the affected residents and urged relevant authorities at all levels of government to provide immediate assistance to victims.

“I sympathise with all those affected by the flood that ravaged Odoba Ogaje community of Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State,” Moro said.

He called on government agencies at the local, state and federal levels to urgently intervene and provide relief materials and other forms of support to those impacted by the disaster.

Moro also appealed to the contractor handling the ongoing road project in the area to urgently address concerns over blocked drainage channels, which residents believe may have worsened the flooding.

“The contractor handling the road project should urgently visit the affected community with a view to opening up the existing drainage systems that have been blocked as a result of the ongoing construction work and provide support for the victims in this trying moment,” the senator stated.

While assuring the community of his continued support and solidarity the lawmaker said “My thoughts and prayers are with the people, and I assure them of my support,” Moro added.
