The newly elected 5th Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Lekki and District Society, has unveiled an ambitious agenda aimed at positioning the district as the leading ICAN district society in the country through innovation, professional excellence, mentorship and digital transformation.

Speaking at his inauguration, the chairman expressed gratitude to members of the district for the confidence reposed in him, describing his election as both an honour and a call to service.

He pledged to provide purposeful leadership and build on the achievements of previous administrations that have contributed to the district’s growth and reputation within the institute.

According to him, the district has moved beyond the stage of merely pursuing growth and must now focus on leading conversations that shape the future of the accounting profession.

He noted that emerging trends such as artificial intelligence, sustainability reporting, digital transformation, changing tax regimes and evolving business models are redefining the profession and require proactive engagement from members.

To address these developments, he said the district would strengthen its technical programmes, promote research and knowledge sharing, organise high-impact conferences and create platforms for members to contribute meaningfully to national and economic discourse. He added that the goal is to establish the district as a recognised hub for thought leadership within the profession.

The chairman also identified membership growth and mentorship as critical pillars of his administration.

He disclosed plans to expand membership, deepen mentorship programmes for young professionals and aspiring chartered accountants, and intentionally develop future leaders, adding that the district aims to double its membership strength and attain Category A status within ICAN.

On digital transformation, he said the district would leverage technology to improve member engagement, communication, learning and service delivery, while explaining that webinars, digital knowledge-sharing platforms and enhanced online services would enable members to access value regardless of their location while strengthening the district’s position as a model of innovation within the institute.

He also pledged to expand the district’s “Catch Them Young” initiative aimed at attracting future professionals to the accounting field.

However, he urged members to work together to achieve the district’s goals, stressing that sustained progress can only be achieved through unity, collaboration and shared commitment.
