Former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State and current Chairman of the Board of the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital (FUHSTH), Azare, Hon. Tukur Umar Danfulani, has condemned what he described as politically motivated attacks against Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Danfulani said recent criticisms directed at the former Zamfara governor and current senator representing Zamfara West were aimed at tarnishing his reputation and undermining his political influence.

According to him, Yari’s growing prominence in national politics, particularly his strong showing in the race for Senate President at the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, had unsettled some political opponents.

Danfulani argued that despite being a first-term senator, Yari demonstrated considerable political strength during the Senate leadership contest, a development he said generated concerns among his detractors.

He also highlighted what he described as Yari’s contributions to tackling insecurity in Zamfara State, claiming that the senator is funding the procurement of 14 security vehicles to support ongoing efforts against banditry.

The former APC chairman further stated that Yari had launched a scholarship programme for 20,000 children, particularly those from less-privileged backgrounds and orphanages, covering their education from primary to secondary school level.

According to Danfulani, the senator has also continued to provide humanitarian assistance through educational sponsorships, empowerment programmes, food distribution and support for vulnerable groups across the state.

He added that Yari is currently constructing 3,000 housing units for victims of last year’s flood disaster in Gummi Local Government Area and had purchased and furnished a permanent APC state secretariat in Zamfara.

Danfulani recalled that during his tenure as APC chairman in the state, Yari funded the party’s electronic registration exercise and provided logistical support during the Kaura Namoda South bye-election, which the party won despite being in opposition at the time.

He maintained that Yari’s record of public service and philanthropy remains visible and open to public scrutiny, describing him as one of Zamfara’s most influential political leaders.

Danfulani urged Nigerians, particularly residents of Zamfara State, to avoid what he termed character assassination of leaders and instead support individuals working toward the development of the state.

He said Yari’s contributions to security, education, humanitarian support and party development demonstrate his commitment to the welfare of the people and the progress of Zamfara State.
