KADUNA — The District Head of Makarfi, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, has said the reconstruction and modernization of General Hospital, Makarfi, by the Kaduna State Government has ended more than four decades of neglect and significantly improved healthcare delivery in the area.
The traditional ruler said the intervention has enhanced access to quality healthcare services, restored public confidence in government-owned health facilities and renewed hope among residents of Makarfi and neighbouring communities.
Alhaji Adamu spoke during a statewide media tour of projects executed by the administration of Governor Uba Sani in Zone One of Kaduna State.
The tour, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, and the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad, was organised to showcase ongoing development projects and facilitate interaction with beneficiary communities.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Makarfi, the district head disclosed that the hospital, established in the early 1970s, had not undergone any major reconstruction or received modern medical equipment for more than 40 years before the intervention of the current administration.
According to him, the transformation of the facility marks a major milestone in addressing longstanding healthcare challenges in the area.
“For many years, our people struggled with inadequate healthcare services and had to travel long distances to access quality medical treatment. Today, that reality has changed,” he said.
He added that Governor Uba Sani fulfilled a promise made to the people of Makarfi by reconstructing and equipping the hospital with modern facilities capable of meeting the healthcare needs of the growing population.
“The reconstruction and equipping of this hospital have brought relief, restored confidence in public healthcare and renewed hope for our people. We are grateful that the governor has fulfilled his promise to the community,” he said.
Alhaji Adamu noted that the upgraded hospital now serves not only residents of Makarfi Local Government Area but also people from surrounding communities who rely on the facility for medical services.
Residents who spoke during the visit described the project as a life-changing intervention.
One of the patients receiving treatment at the hospital, Malama Sadiya Rabiu, said the upgraded facility has reduced the hardship and financial burden associated with seeking medical care outside the local government area.
“Today, we can access quality healthcare services close to home. This has brought great relief to families, and we are grateful to Governor Uba Sani for fulfilling his promise,” she said.
Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, said the project has strengthened public trust in government and demonstrated the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens.
Makarfi General Hospital is among 16 general hospitals currently undergoing reconstruction and modernization under the Kaduna State Government’s healthcare transformation programme.
Speaking during the tour, the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad, said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare services across the state.
She reiterated that the government considers healthcare a fundamental right and would continue investing in the rehabilitation, upgrading and equipping of health facilities, particularly in underserved communities.
