The Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) is experiencing a wave of resignations following the conduct of the party’s recent primaries.

As of Monday, more than 11 members of the State Executive Council (EXCO), including the Deputy State Chairman and the State Secretary, have resigned from the party.

In their resignation letters, the affected officials cited dissatisfaction with the process and outcome of the primaries held on May 29, 2026.

The Deputy State Chairman, Comrade Okey Idenyi, stated in his resignation letter:

“Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is sadly no longer able to carry out its own rules or offer credible opposition… It is in the light of the foregoing that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress, effective immediately.”

Similarly, the State Secretary, Barrister Aduma Solomon Chinedu, mentioned unresolved issues in the state chapter as a key reason for his decision.

The resignations come after supporters of one of the aspirants, Architect Christian Asaga Nwali (popularly known as C-Sagas), staged a peaceful protest in Abuja, calling for the party to declare the authentic result of the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District primary.

As of the time of filing this report, the national leadership of the NDC is yet to issue an official response to the developments in Ebonyi State.

The situation has raised concerns about unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
