As discussions continue over the future leadership of Okpanku community in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, stakeholders and community members have drawn attention to the life, achievements and service record of businessman and community leader, Chief Damian Orji.

Born on May 11, 1974, into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Orji Chukwu Lawrence of Umu-Uviaji Clan, Amagu, Okpanku, Chief Orji’s journey has been described by many as a story of resilience, hard work, and dedication to community development.

His early years were marked by sacrifice after he reportedly put aside his educational ambitions to support his family through apprenticeship training, a decision that later laid the foundation for his business success.

After years of training and business experience in Imo State, he established himself in Abuja, where he built successful ventures in the oil and gas sector. He later founded Jesil Oil and Gas Limited in 2009 and Reynight Resources Limited in 2011, creating employment opportunities for many Nigerians.

Despite his achievements in business, associates say Chief Orji has remained deeply committed to helping others. Through educational support, mentorship programmes, employment opportunities, and assistance to widows, orphans, and vulnerable families, he has touched many lives within and outside Okpanku community.

Chief Orji has also held several leadership positions, including Chairman of the Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi Catholic Community at the Church of Annunciation Parish, Kubwa, Abuja, Chairman of Amagu Development Union Abuja Branch, and Chairman of Idejimba Age Grade, among other community responsibilities.

Speaking on his vision for the community, Chief Orji stressed the need for unity, development, inclusive leadership and deepening the peace within Okpanku and bordering communities.

“True leadership is about service, justice, and putting people first. Our community can achieve more when everyone feels represented, respected, and carried along,” he said.

Community members say his reputation as a businessman, philanthropist, and peace builder has earned him respect across different groups within the community. They noted that his leadership style has consistently emphasized dialogue, reconciliation, and collective progress.
