President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, for the ongoing infrastructure development across Abuja.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard) and other road networks in Katampe District on Friday, the President said the minister had demonstrated commitment to the administration’s infrastructure agenda in the Federal Capital Territory.

“When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. Wike, you have not disappointed Mr. President,” Tinubu said.

The President cited the delivery of roads, water projects, judicial infrastructure and urban renewal initiatives across the FCT.

The commissioning formed part of a series of project inaugurations undertaken by the FCT Administration.

Tinubu described the newly completed road as an important addition to the territory’s infrastructure network, noting that the installation of solar-powered street lights was expected to improve security and economic activities in the area.

“CN2 is more than concrete and asphalt. It represents hope. It demonstrates that government can deliver,” he said.

In his remarks, Wike said the Katampe road project was conceived to address a missing link in the district’s road network following the completion of adjoining infrastructure projects.

“Last year, when Mr. President commissioned the Gishiri road and the bridge linking Maitama, this road did not exist. We identified the missing link and moved to address it because infrastructure development must be comprehensive,” he said.

The minister noted that the project had improved accessibility within the district and encouraged further residential and commercial development.

According to him, infrastructure development remains critical to economic growth and employment generation, adding that ongoing projects are being extended to satellite communities across the FCT.

Wike cited the recently commissioned road linking Tungan-Madaki communities as part of efforts to improve access to public services and economic opportunities in outlying areas.

He also disclosed that a major water supply project in Karu is scheduled for commissioning on Monday to improve access to potable water in satellite towns.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, said the project aligns with the administration’s objective of improving infrastructure and service delivery in the territory.

She commended the President, the National Assembly, the FCT Administration, contractors and community leaders for their contributions to the project.

Earlier, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, said the project consists of a 3.9-kilometre road network equipped with underground drainage systems, water pipelines, sewer infrastructure, telecommunications ducts, solar-powered street lighting, walkways and green areas.

According to him, the road will enhance connectivity between Katampe, Mabushi, Jahi, Maitama and neighbouring districts while opening up additional areas for residential and commercial development.
