...Harps on safety of Niger Delta students

The National President of the Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG), Comr. Adighibe Wisdom, has led a delegation on a familiarization and courtesy visit to the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the student community, while fostering collaboration on issues affecting students across the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large.
During the meeting, Adighibe expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of insecurity affecting students and teachers across Nigeria, particularly the reported cases of kidnapping involving students and educational personnel in Oyo State.
The Union strongly condemned all forms of attacks on educational institutions and described such acts as a direct threat to the future of Nigeria and the right of every child to quality education in a safe environment.
Adighibe expressed the commitment of the Niger Delta Students Union Government to promoting peace, lawfulness, and constructive engagement between students and security agencies. He further highlighted the importance of continuous sensitization of students on security consciousness and responsible citizenship.
In his remarks, DCP Anthony Okon Placid commended the leadership of the Union for its proactive approach to issues of student welfare and security. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property and assured the delegation of the Force’s readiness to collaborate with student bodies in promoting safety, peace, and national unity.
Both parties agreed on the need for sustained engagement, information sharing, security awareness campaigns, and strategic partnerships aimed at addressing security challenges affecting Niger Delta Students across the country.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment by the P.A to the Force Public Relations Officer, ASP Habib Adamu Yusuf, to building a stronger relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the student community for the collective advancement, security, and development of Nigerian students.
Among the resolutions reached at the meeting included: to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Niger Delta Students Union Government; to promote security awareness and crime prevention among students; to encourage peaceful coexistence and law-abiding conduct within campuses and host communities.
Others are: To establish channels of communication between student leaders and relevant security agencies and to work collectively towards ensuring the safety and welfare of students across the Niger Delta region and Nigeria.
