The Delta State Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr. Fred Akpewe, yesterday urged party members to be calm and not to be panic over the court’s deregistration of five political parties.
The party’s publicity secretary, who called for calm in a statement released to newsmen, said the recent court proceedings concerning the proposed deregistration of some political parties have understandably generated concerns among many party members.
Akpewe, however, stated “this is not the time for despair, panic, or despondency, but rather, it is a time for unity, vigilance, and renewed commitment to our collective political mission.”
He pointed out that the current position is that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is currently restrained from implementing any deregistration of the five political parties as the Court of Appeal in Abuja has suspended the execution of the lower court’s judgment.
He said, “It could be recalled that an Abuja Federal High Court had ordered INEC to deregister five political parties (ADC, Accord, Action Alliance , APP and ZLP.) With this reprieve the affected political Parties are now free to continue with their activities without fear of molestation.
“First and foremost, it is important to remember that democracy is governed by the rule of law. Court decisions are subject to appeals and judicial review. Political parties are creations of the Constitution and cannot simply be wished away without due legal processes being fully exhausted.
“More importantly, the ADC remains one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing political platforms. Across the country, millions of Nigerians are increasingly identifying with the party’s message of good governance, accountability, economic empowerment, and national renewal. The growing popularity of the ADC is precisely why many vested interests are uncomfortable with its rising influence.
“In Delta State, our party is stronger today than ever before. The emergence of Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru as our governorship candidate has energized the grassroots and attracted new supporters from every senatorial district. Our structures remain intact, our leaders remain committed, and our supporters remain determined.
“History teaches us that every great political movement faces challenges. What separates successful movements from unsuccessful ones is not the absence of obstacles but the courage to overcome them. The ADC family has overcome challenges before, and we shall overcome this one too.
“Therefore, I urge every member to remain calm, focused, and optimistic. Let us continue mobilizing, expanding our membership base, strengthening our ward structures, and taking our message of hope to every community in Delta State.
“The road to 2027 remains open. Our mission remains unchanged. Our determination remains unshaken. Let us move forward with confidence, knowing that the future belongs to those who refuse to surrender to fear.”
