Franco-British International University (FBIU), Kaduna, on Wednesday formally admitted 362 students into its academic community during its maiden matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The event attracted parents, guardians, government officials, academics, invited guests and well-wishers from across the country who gathered to witness the students take the matriculation oath, marking the beginning of their academic journey at the institution.

The students were admitted into four schools of the university: the School of Nursing Sciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Computing, and School of Social and Management Sciences.

Speaking during the ceremony, the President of FBIU, Prof. Abdullahi Sabo Muhammad, congratulated the students on their successful admission and described the occasion as a significant milestone in both their lives and the history of the university.

He said the matriculation ceremony signified the students’ formal entry into the university system and urged them to embrace discipline, hard work and academic excellence throughout their stay at the institution.

Founder of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, charged the students to remain focused on their studies and avoid activities capable of undermining their academic pursuits.

He warned against drug abuse, immorality and other social vices, stressing that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy on drug-related offences.

Prof. Gwarzo reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to producing highly skilled graduates capable of contributing to national and continental development.

He also announced plans to establish an Internationalisation Unit at the university to facilitate access to scholarships, academic exchange programmes and other global learning opportunities for students and staff.

In his goodwill message, the Chancellor of FBIU, Senator Shehu Sani, urged the newly admitted students to uphold good character and discipline, noting that both qualities are essential for academic success and the preservation of the university’s reputation.

Other speakers at the event, including the President of MAAUN Nigeria, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr; the Registrar of MAAUN Niger and Nigeria, Dr. Shu’aibu Usman Tanko; and the representative of the Canadian University of Nigeria, Prof. Ahmed Maigari Ibrahim, encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunities available at the institution.

They described the students as fortunate to have secured admission into one of the fast-rising universities in sub-Saharan Africa and urged them to remain committed to their educational goals.

Also speaking, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON), Dr. Baba Muhammad Yakubu, commended FBIU for offering academic programmes that are responsive to contemporary societal needs and aligned with international standards.

The Vice President (Administration) of FBIU, who presided over the ceremony, administered the matriculation oath, formally admitting the 362 students into the university community.
