The Lagos State House of Assembly has reiterated its commitment to excellence, professionalism and diligence in public service as it commenced a two-day induction programme for newly appointed officers of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, LAHASCOM and the Assembly.

The programme, held on Monday at the Lateef Jakande Auditorium, brought together 132 newly recruited officers, comprising male and female staff from diverse educational backgrounds. The exercise was designed to familiarise the recruits with the operations, ethics, responsibilities and expectations associated with legislative service.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, represented by the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, urged the newly inducted officers to be productive, proactive and professional in the discharge of their duties.

He stressed that the Assembly places a high premium on excellence and accountability in service delivery, encouraging the officers to contribute meaningfully to the institution’s objectives.

In her keynote address, the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, Alhaja Omowunmi Ogbara, charged the officers to strictly adhere to the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and maintain the highest standards of discipline, productivity and ethical conduct in their respective directorates.

Ogbara also called for a minute’s silence in honour of two staff members who recently passed away, describing their deaths as a painful loss to the Assembly family and praying for the repose of their souls.
One of the facilitators, retired civil servant Mr. Femi Solaja, took participants through the Public Service Rules and Regulations guiding public officers. He highlighted key provisions of the Code of Conduct, stressing the need for honesty, integrity, loyalty and professionalism in public service.

According to him, public servants must avoid corruption, misconduct and any act capable of tarnishing the image of the service. He also underscored the importance of punctuality, regular attendance and dedication to assigned responsibilities.

Solaja further reminded the officers of the need to obey lawful instructions and maintain confidentiality regarding official information obtained in the course of duty unless duly authorised.

He encouraged the recruits to embrace innovation, teamwork, productivity and initiative while remaining committed to discipline, diligence, loyalty and integrity throughout their careers.

The induction programme featured interactive sessions that enabled participants to engage directly with management staff. The exercise will continue on Tuesday with additional sessions aimed at deepening participants’ understanding of legislative procedures, administrative processes and the core values of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service.
