Support groups loyal to grassroots politician and former House of Representatives aspirant, Apagun Olaseni Salako, have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move seen as a significant political shift in Ogun West.

The defection was announced during a meeting attended by leaders, coordinators, and members of the groups across Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency.

Addressing supporters, Salako said the decision followed extensive consultations and reflected a collective resolve to align with a platform capable of delivering greater development for Ogun West and the state as a whole.

He explained that the move was largely influenced by the governorship ambition of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, whom he described as a transformational leader with the experience and vision to reposition Ogun State.

Salako noted that Ogun West has yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state, stressing that the current political moment presents an opportunity to correct what he described as a longstanding imbalance.

He called on his supporters and residents of Yewa South, Ipokia, and the wider Ogun West Senatorial District to unite behind the APC and work towards the success of all its candidates in 2027 general elections.

The defecting groups also pledged to intensify grassroots mobilization and voter engagement in support of the party.

Political observers believe the development will strengthen the APC’s position in the constituency and boost momentum for Adeola’s governorship aspiration ahead of the polls.
