Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, has matriculated 1,056 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, innovation and global competitiveness.

The matriculation ceremony, the fifth since the university was established in 2022, took place at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Lecture Theatre and attracted parents, guardians, academics and other stakeholders from across the country.

Speaking at the event, the President of MAAUN, Prof. Mohammad Israr, described the occasion as a significant milestone in the academic journey of the students, noting that it formally inducted them into a university community built on excellence, integrity and service.

He congratulated the fresh students on securing admission into the institution and urged them to remain focused on their studies while upholding the university’s core values.

Prof. Israr said MAAUN had continued to strengthen its academic and research profile through strategic investments in teaching, innovation and international partnerships.

According to him, the institution was recently ranked as Nigeria’s second-best private university by the AD Scientific Index, a global academic ranking platform.

He further disclosed that the university has signed more than 70 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with universities and organisations across 31 countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, Russia, China, Brazil, India and Afghanistan.

The MAAUN president noted that the institution currently has over 5,000 students, with female students accounting for about 80 per cent of the student population, reflecting its commitment to promoting access to quality education and empowering women.

In his remarks, Founder of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, cautioned the students against drug abuse and other social vices, stressing that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy on misconduct.

He urged the new students to exhibit good character and strictly adhere to the university’s rules and regulations throughout their stay on campus.

Also speaking, Vice President Administration of MAAUN Maradi, Niger Republic, Dr. Shu’aibu Tanko, encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunities available at the institution and serve as worthy ambassadors of both the university and Nigeria.

Some parents who attended the ceremony commended the university’s management for its commitment to academic excellence and character development.

They also lauded Prof. Gwarzo for providing world-class facilities that continue to enhance teaching, learning and research within the institution.

The matriculation oath was administered by the Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, formally inducting the students into the university community.

Among dignitaries present were the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Ahmad Maigari Ibrahim; Director of the Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation (IAHERI), Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna; Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Nura A. Yaro; Vice President, Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba; Head of MAAUN International Office, Engr. Bashir Garba, as well as deans, heads of departments and other invited guests.
