The National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN), Ondo State Chapter, has launched a Self-Defense Skills Empowerment Programme for its members. The programme is aimed at promoting the safety, confidence, and overall well-being of female students across the state.

In a statement by the Chairperson, Ikuenomore Precious Adenike, the initiative is designed to equip female students with practical self-defence techniques, personal safety awareness, situational assessment skills, and confidence-building strategies necessary for navigating everyday challenges and security concerns.

“Recognising the increasing need for proactive measures that enhance the safety and empowerment of young women, NFSAN Ondo State Chapter has developed this programme as a sustainable intervention that will reach participants through three carefully planned editions across various institutions within the state.

“The programme will feature experienced self-defence instructors, security professionals, and facilitators who will provide hands-on training and valuable insights into personal security, emergency response, and self-protection strategies,” Adenike said.

She also emphasised the importance of empowering female students beyond the classroom.

“Empowerment is not limited to academic achievement or leadership opportunities. It also includes equipping young women with the confidence, awareness, and practical skills needed to protect themselves and respond effectively to challenging situations. Through this initiative, we aim to create safer learning environments and build a generation of resilient, confident, and empowered female students.”

The three-edition programme is expected to impact hundreds of female students, foster a culture of safety consciousness, and contribute meaningfully to efforts aimed at reducing vulnerability among young women.

“To ensure the successful implementation and expansion of the initiative, NFSAN Ondo State Chapter is hereby calling on corporate organisations, government institutions, security agencies, development partners, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to support the project through sponsorships and strategic partnerships.

“Sponsorship and partnership opportunities are available for all three editions of the programme, providing organisations with a unique platform to contribute to female empowerment, youth development, and community impact while demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility.

“Interested sponsors and partners are encouraged to collaborate with NFSAN Ondo State Chapter in making this vision a reality and extending its reach to more female students across the state. Together, we can empower, protect, and inspire the next generation of female leaders.”
