Dr. Eberechukwu Uneze has been commended for his contributions to strengthening policy research and institutional development in Africa through his leadership at the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA).

According to reports, Dr. Uneze played a key role in enhancing the reputation of CSEA as one of Africa’s respected policy research institutions during his tenure as Executive Director and Head of the Public Financial Management and Governance Programme.

It’s noted that under Uneze’s leadership, the institution expanded its work across critical development areas, including governance reform, public expenditure management, healthcare financing, education policy, and employment systems.

Uneze has consistently promoted the use of research to inform decision-making, stressing that knowledge becomes valuable when it influences policies and governance outcomes.

“Rather than limiting research to reports and academic publications, I’ve worked to ensure that findings reached policymakers and contributed to practical solutions,” Uneze stated

The article further highlighted Uneze’s role in strengthening partnerships between African research institutions and international organizations, including collaborations through the Global Development Network.

My efforts contributed to CSEA’s recognition for research excellence and capacity development in Africa, reflecting years of institutional strengthening and strategic engagement, & it’s important to note that I Uneze viewed collaboration as an important tool for development and helped position African research voices within global policy discussions through partnerships with development agencies, universities, think tanks, and multilateral institutions.

Uneze also championed the importance of strong intellectual institutions, arguing that sustainable development requires not only physical infrastructure but also organizations capable of generating ideas, evaluating policies, and guiding national development.

Uneze’s work demonstrated the critical role think tanks play in shaping governance and supporting Africa’s long-term transformation.
