‎‎UYO — The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of Labour Party (LP) has officially presented Emmanuel Ben as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.

‎‎The adoption was announced during the party’s primary elections held at the Labour Party Secretariat in Uyo, where party leaders and delegates unanimously endorsed Ben’s candidacy.

‎‎Speaking, the Primary Election Committee chairman of LP,  Daniel Umobong, said the decision followed extensive consultations and was based on Ben’s track record, grassroots support, and commitment to the party’s manifesto.

‎‎He also revealed that Ben was the only aspirant who purchased the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms alongside 10 House of Assembly and five House of Representatives aspirants.

‎‎He added that they were all screened according to party guidelines and met the requirements before being declared as candidates for different offices in the state.

‎‎The State Party chairman, Comrade Lincoln Charles, congratulated all the candidates, especially Emmanuel Ben, the governorship candidate, expressing optimism that he has what it takes to occupy the hilltop mansion.

‎‎The Chairman used the opportunity to dismiss the insinuation that Labour Party has two factions in Akwa Ibom, saying that he is the only recognised chairman.

‎‎He maintained that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), observed the primary election.

‎‎“The governorship candidate of this Party is Emmanuel Friday Ben who has just emerged from the just-concluded primaries. So, anyone who’s not here is not known by INEC or Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State,” he stated.

‎‎In his acceptance speech, the governorship candidate thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to run an issue-based campaign focused on job creation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.

‎‎“I accept this nomination with humility and a deep sense of responsibility. Our mission is to build an Akwa Ibom where every citizen has equal opportunity to thrive,” Ben stated.
