The Orlu Zonal chapter of the Obidient Movement has raised concerns over alleged attempts to manipulate the results of the recently concluded primary elections of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Orlu Senatorial Zone of Imo State.
The movement expressed worries over reports suggesting that the outcome of the primaries conducted across the twelve local government areas of the zone on May 28, 2026, may be subjected to undue interference by certain individuals allegedly seeking to influence the party’s electoral process.
According to the group, any action capable of altering the will of party members as expressed during the primaries would undermine democratic principles and portray the NDC as no different from political parties often criticized for lacking internal democracy.
Speaking on behalf of the movement, the Orlu Zonal Coordinator, Comrade OCA Emejuru, stated that several aspirants within the zone had raised questions over what they described as attempts by powerful interests to hijack both the party structure and the outcome of the primary elections.
Emejuru emphasized that the Obidient Movement, inspired by the ideals of Peter Obi, remains committed to promoting transparency, fairness, and accountability in political processes.
He maintained that politics should not be reduced to transactional arrangements at the expense of merit, credibility, and the wishes of party faithful.
The movement therefore called on the national leadership of the NDC, particularly as its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting approaches, to uphold the sanctity of the primary election results and ensure that party tickets are awarded strictly to aspirants who emerged through a transparent democratic process.
The group further urged party leaders to prioritize candidates with proven capacity, ideological commitment, and grassroots acceptance, arguing that such qualities would strengthen the party’s chances in future elections and make it easier for supporters to mobilize and defend electoral mandates.
The Obidient Movement reiterated its commitment to safeguarding democratic values within the NDC and pledged to continue advocating for transparency and fairness in all party affairs.
