Delta monarch marks 33 years rule, 10 years staff of office

…As Ugboba Kingdom Celebrates a Decade of Peace, Cultural Renaissance, Economic Growth and Human Capital Development

Ugboba Kingdom, a historic agrarian community in Odiani Clan of Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, has steadily evolved into a beacon of peace, cultural pride, and socio-economic progress.

At the heart of this transformation is the visionary leadership of His Royal Majesty, Agbogidi Obi Ezedimbu Emmanuel Nkebakwu III, whose reign has brought renewed purpose and prosperity to the ancient kingdom.

This year marks a double celebration for the revered monarch — 33 years on the throne of his forefathers and 10 years since his official recognition by the Delta State Government with the presentation of the Staff of Office on June 2, 2016.

The journey of Obi Ezedimbu is one deeply rooted in destiny, sacrifice, and purposeful leadership. Thirty-three years ago, following the transition of his father to eternal glory, he ascended the throne of Ugboba Kingdom. Recognising the changing dynamics of leadership in a rapidly evolving world, the young monarch made a remarkable decision shortly after his coronation: he travelled abroad to the United Kingdom in pursuit of formal education and global exposure, believing that modern kingship demands wisdom, knowledge, and strategic insight.

After spending nearly two decades abroad acquiring academic and professional experience, Obi Ezedimbu returned home better prepared to lead his people into a new era of development and relevance. His official recognition by the Delta State Government in 2016 not only legitimised his authority traditionally and constitutionally, but also marked the beginning of a transformative phase in the history of Ugboba Kingdom.

Over the past decade, Ugboba has witnessed unprecedented peace, unity, and economic advancement. Traditionally known as an agrarian community populated largely by farmers and traders, the kingdom also possesses significant deposits of lignite coal – a natural resource with enormous economic potential.

Drawing from his international exposure and knowledge of coal mining and resource management, Obi Ezedimbu saw beyond the surface value of the mineral deposits. Through strategic engagement and visionary leadership, he facilitated opportunities that have positioned Ugboba as an emerging economic hub in Delta State.

Today, the activities of Mosra Energy Limited in the community have not only enhanced local economic viability but have also contributed meaningfully to the revenue base of the local government, the Delta State Government, and the Federal Government through taxes and associated economic activities. The development has generated employment opportunities, stimulated commerce, and expanded the economic prospects of the kingdom.

Indeed, the 33 years of Obi Ezedimbu’s reign and the 10 years of his government recognition have become symbolic of purposeful kingship, progressive leadership, and sustainable development. It is, therefore, a milestone worthy of celebration and reflection.

Interestingly, the month of June holds profound significance for the monarch. Beyond commemorating his official recognition by government, June also marks his birthday and wedding anniversary – making the season one of personal and royal thanksgiving.

Yet, beyond the ceremonial splendour of kingship, Obi Ezedimbu has distinguished himself as a monarch driven by service, justice, and community advancement. He is widely regarded as a king committed to institutionalising peace, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering unity among his people.

His reign has consistently emphasised the importance of education as the greatest investment any society can make in its future. Having personally experienced the transformative power of education, the monarch has continued to champion learning, mentorship, and youth empowerment across formal, informal, and vocational platforms.

In line with this vision, he has chosen to celebrate his forthcoming birthday alongside pupils and students in Ugboba community, demonstrating his enduring commitment to the younger generation. While nurturing plans to establish a computer literacy centre in the community school, the monarch has, in the interim, continued to support students with books, school bags, and other educational materials aimed at equipping them mentally and academically for the future.

Within the last decade, Obi Ezedimbu has also redefined leadership within the traditional institution beyond Ugboba Kingdom. As Chairman of the Aniocha North Traditional Rulers Committee, he has brought renewed visibility, coordination, and influence to the council of traditional rulers in the area.

Under his leadership, the traditional rulers of Aniocha North successfully hosted the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, during a historic visit to the area – a testament to the growing relevance and recognition of the traditional institution under his stewardship.

Similarly, his leadership and mediation efforts played a crucial role in the peaceful resolution of the lingering kingship dispute in Issele-Azagba. Through wisdom, diplomacy, and commitment to peace, the crisis was amicably resolved, paving the way for the emergence, recognition, and presentation of the Staff of Office to a substantive king in the community.

Without doubt, the reign of Obi Ezedimbu Emmanuel Nkebakwu III has ushered in a remarkable era of peace, unity, cultural identity, economic sustainability, and human capital development in Ugboba Kingdom. Through intellect, foresight, humility, and an unwavering sense of responsibility, he has demonstrated that traditional leadership remains a powerful catalyst for societal growth and transformation.

As the kingdom celebrates these historic milestones, the prayers and goodwill of the people remain steadfast — that God Almighty will continue to grant the monarch divine wisdom, strength, sound health, and enduring grace to sustain the trajectory of progress and lead Ugboba Kingdom to even greater heights in the years ahead.
