— Says political office should be for service, not wealth’

Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, former presidential aspirant and convener of the YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement, has said Nigeria will only progress if political leaders and citizens embrace sacrifice and put the nation’s interest above personal gain.
In a message to Muslims worldwide on the occasion of Eid al-Kabir, Ikubese said the country was at a crossroads and needed a renewed commitment to selflessness at all levels.
“Our nation Nigeria is currently at a crossroads. If she will ever come out of the current predicaments and forge into greatness, our political leaders and indeed every citizen must adorn the garment of sacrifice and selflessness,” he said.
While stressing that such leadership should flow from the top down, he added that the role of every citizen was equally important.
Ikubese said the festival’s significance lay in its emphasis on sacrifice and selflessness in human affairs.
He urged Muslim political office holders to emulate Prophet Ibrahim by viewing public office as an opportunity for sacrificial service rather than personal enrichment.
The medical doctor also called on citizens to stop placing unnecessary financial pressure on office holders for personal benefit.
“I wish all our Muslim faithful Barka da Sallah,” he said.
Ikubese prayed that “the divine blessings of this sacred festival bring immense joy, peace, and prosperity to your homes.”
