…Says Accord Party will serve as vehicle for Hashim’s presidential bid

ABUJA — A prominent ally of late political patriarch, Olusola Saraki, Oba Ajara, has thrown his weight behind the presidential ambition of Gbenga Hashim ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying Nigeria’s opposition has largely failed in its responsibility while Hashim has remained ‘consistent’ in challenging the political establishment.

The move by the 90-year-old political figure, who has spent more than six decades in Nigerian politics, adds to early conversations around opposition realignments ahead of 2027, particularly in Kwara State where political loyalties remain influential.

Speaking at a political gathering attended by leaders from across Kwara Central, Ajara said his position was shaped by his long experience in Nigerian politics and his assessment of the country’s current political climate.

Ajara said, “The opposition in Nigeria has abandoned its responsibility. It is only Gbenga Hashim who has remained consistent and committed to the fight against subjugation.

“In my over 60 years in politics, I consider Dr. Gbenga Hashim the only true leader in Nigeria today with the capacity to rescue this country from its current state of helplessness.”

Ajara also said the Accord Party would serve as the platform for Hashim’s 2027 presidential bid and urged supporters across the state to rally behind the party.

“That is where we will all converge to actualise this mission in 2027,” he said.

The development is expected to trigger fresh political discussions in Kwara, especially among groups seeking alternatives to the state’s dominant political structures ahead of the next general elections.

Responding, Hashim described the gesture as both an honour and a call to greater responsibility.

He said his political movement would remain focused on justice, economic recovery, national unity and democratic renewal.
