TechBridge Foundation has intensified efforts to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM, education among girls with a technology outreach programme that empowered 90 female students of Government Secondary School, Apo, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The programme, under the TechBridge HerVoice Initiative, themed “Future Builders: Discovering Your Place in the Tech World,” brought together students, teachers and education stakeholders for interactive sessions aimed at encouraging young girls to embrace technology and develop skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.
Speaking during the outreach held two days ago, facilitators stressed the importance of innovation, leadership, creativity and digital literacy in shaping future careers and addressing societal challenges.
The students participated in sessions on technology career opportunities, innovation and problem-solving, educational pathways, and emerging digital skills, alongside games, quizzes, motivational talks and group activities designed to boost their confidence and participation.
A representative of the Education Board, Mrs. Adegboyega Alice, who attended the event alongside two teachers from the school, commended the initiative for exposing students to practical knowledge beyond the classroom.
She noted that such programmes would help broaden students’ understanding of opportunities within the technology ecosystem and inspire them to pursue careers in STEM-related fields.
One of the major highlights of the event was the interactive question-and-answer session where students openly discussed their career aspirations, interests and concerns about opportunities available to girls within the technology sector.
TechBridge Foundation also announced plans to support vulnerable female students through a proposed school fee sponsorship initiative targeted at selected students in the school.
According to the Foundation, between one and three girls would benefit from the sponsorship scheme as part of its commitment to youth empowerment and educational support.
The organisation disclosed that the initiative would not only provide financial assistance to beneficiaries but would also form part of a broader impact project aimed at documenting and showcasing the stories of the students involved.
Speaking after the programme, the Foundation said the outreach achieved its objective of increasing awareness about opportunities in STEM and inspiring students to see themselves as future innovators and leaders in the technology industry.
The organisation further reiterated its commitment to expanding similar outreach programmes across schools in the Federal Capital Territory while strengthening mentorship opportunities for girls interested in technology and innovation.
