Qingyun Wudang brings internal martial arts to Lagos

Interest is growing in Lagos around Fu Qingyun Wudang Internal Boxing, a newly rebranded martial arts platform led by cultural strategist; platform founder Ade Olufeko.

Olufeko, born Adeolu Olufeko and raised in a Protestant Christian household within the Baptist tradition, previously worked in deeptech in the United States before returning to Nigeria, where he has contributed to raising the profile of the creative sector across West Africa.

Fu Qingyun Wudang has been established as a serious platform for internal martial arts training in Lagos, with emphasis on discipline, mental clarity, emotional resilience, and the cultivation of inner strength.

Olufeko, who bears the Chinese name Fu Qingyun, has studied Wudang under recognized masters and instructors in mainland China. He approaches the art primarily as a physical and philosophical discipline rather than a religious practice. He clearly separates the practical training, which includes Tai Chi, Qigong, and traditional internal forms, from its original Taoist religious elements.

The academy draws a parallel between the Chinese internal tradition and Yoruba philosophy through the proverb “Agbára inú ju òde lọ” (“Inner strength surpasses outer strength”), creating a respectful bridge between both traditions.Over the years, Olufeko has conducted martial arts training through quiet technology workshops and invitation-only sessions across parts of West and the South Africas. Some of his students include A. Akin-Olugbade, Chigul, Teniola Apata, and broadcaster Soni Irabor. Despite his wide network and public-facing work in culture and media, Olufeko is known for maintaining a relatively private and low-profile presence. He rarely accepts collaborations or joint ventures unless they are carefully considered and aligned with broader cultural or societal benefit.

Since the rebrand announcement in May 2026, Fu Qingyun Wudang Boxing has seen growing interest from professionals, creatives, and individuals seeking structured internal training. The kwoon continues to operate alongside its existing Wing Chun Foundation Lagos programme and Visual Collaborative unification.
