The Ondo Women Elders Council, OWEC has congratulated former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, over his decision to join the All Progressives Congress, APC describing the move as a significant development capable of strengthening political inclusion and democratic participation in the state.

In a letter dated May 14, 2026, and signed by the President of the council, Engr. Janet Adeyemi, the women’s group said Dr. Mimiko’s political realignment reflected his continued dedication to public service and the advancement of Ondo State and Nigeria.

The council praised the former governor’s record in office, particularly his reforms in healthcare, education and social welfare, noting that his administration remained a reference point in the political history of the state.

The group stated that his return to a major political platform would further deepen democratic engagement and foster unity across political divides.

According to the women elders, Mimiko’s long-standing attention to grassroots development and his support for women, children and vulnerable groups distinguished him as a leader with enduring relevance in the political affairs of the state.

They expressed optimism that the new political alignment would create more opportunities for collaboration and sustainable development.

The council also reaffirmed its support for initiatives aimed at promoting peace, good governance and collective progress in Ondo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It further encouraged the former governor to continue engaging stakeholders across different sectors while contributing his experience to national development and political discourse.

The letter, which copied prominent members of the council including Chief Barrister Olajumoke Anifowose and Erelu Modupe Martins, concluded with prayers for wisdom, strength and success for the former governor in his future political endeavours.
