The People’s Republic of China and Nigeria have renewed commitments to deepen cooperation in tourism and cultural exchange as both countries seek to strengthen economic growth through the tourism and creative sectors.

The renewed partnership was reaffirmed in Abuja during the 2026 China Tourism Day celebration organised by the China Cultural Center in Nigeria under the theme, “Enjoying Quality Tourism, Exploring Beautiful Landscapes.”

The event brought together diplomats, government officials and cultural stakeholders to promote stronger cultural and people to people relations between both countries.

Speaking at the event, Director of the China Cultural Center in Nigeria, Yang Jianxing, said tourism remains an important bridge for cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

“Tourism serves as a bond for cultural exchange and a bridge for mutual understanding,” Yang said.

He noted that both countries are blessed with rich cultural heritage and tourist attractions capable of promoting stronger bilateral ties.

Yang referenced major cultural sites including Great Wall of China, Mount Tai, Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove and Zuma Rock, describing them as symbols of cultural identity and friendship.

He added that cultural activities such as the “Happy Chinese New Year” celebrations and joint festivals had continued to strengthen relations between both countries.

“We welcome more Nigerian friends to learn Chinese, visit China, explore its magnificent landscapes and experience its long-standing civilization,” he said.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Abdulkarim Ibrahim, said the event reflected the growing diplomatic and cultural ties between Nigeria and China.

According to him, tourism remains a major driver of economic growth and international understanding.

“Our relationship with China in cultural exchange has continued to grow stronger. Nigeria has benefited immensely, including in training and cultural capacity development,” he said.

Ibrahim added that Nigeria is committed to positioning itself as a leading tourism destination in Africa.

“The architecture, gardens and heritage sites in China show a deep commitment to preservation and presentation,” he said.
