APC Primaries: Nasarawa govt alleges ‘fake’ party membership cards in circulation

By Edwin Philip, Lafia

The Nasarawa State Government has raised the alarm over fake member cards and delegate lists circulating among members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the primaries, urging aspirants to be disciplined and follow the roles.

The alarm was raised by Mr Peter Ahemba, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on public affairs, on Thursday during his bi-monthly press briefing to journalists in Lafia today, stating that only members with duly signed cards issued by the party in the state with its security features will be qualified to vote.

“The party has the original list of the delegates that are supposed to participate in the primary election.

Every aspirant has been given the guidelines and the rules of the game.

The party is well-prepared, and the security agencies are also there to ensure that nobody comes with any fake document or any fake list,” he said.

He said that list to be used for the primary election is the one that is officially recognised by the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as anything other than that will not be honoured.

The governor’s aide said the primaries for the House of Representatives scheduled for the 16th of May, 2026, will take place at the headquarters of each of the federal constituencies across the state, which is to ensure that the process is decentralised and that the members can easily access the venues within their respective constituencies.

He said, “Everything has been put in place at those headquarters to ensure a smooth conduct of the exercise. We have also ensured that adequate security is provided at all these venues to forestall any breakdown of law and order.”

While urging electorates to vote their conscience, look for the best candidates who can represent their interests and the interests of the people of Nasarawa State at the National Assembly.

According to him, the governor, as the leader of the party, has promised a free and fair process, and members are called upon to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the election.

He added that the governor will not condone any act of violence from any politician or group of politicians under any guise, as an enabling environment has been created for all aspirants to test their popularity among APC members.

He added, “Politicians are cautioned against any act capable of jeopardising the existing peace in the ruling APC, as

There have been allegations by some aspirants of a plot to rig the election in favour of certain individuals.

These rumours and allegations are dismissed as untrue,” he noted.
