FCET Umunze appoints new Provost, principal officers

The Governing Council of Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, has approved the appointment of new principal officers for the institution, with Dr. Ejezie Nonye emerging as the new Provost. Also appointed are Mr. Eze Joachim as Registrar, Mr. Oguegbulu Philip as Bursar, and Mr. Ameh Shaibu as Librarian.

The appointments followed a screening and interview process conducted by the institution’s 8th Governing Council, led by its Chairman, Dr Gani Azeez. Appointment letters were issued on May 7, 2026, by the outgoing Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Bessie Nkah.

Outgoing Provost, Prof. Theresa Okoli, congratulated the new officers and urged members of staff to support the administration in advancing the College’s growth and development.

Decades of experience

Before her appointment, Dr. Ejezie served as the Congregation Representative of the teaching staff in the institution’s 8th Governing Council, where she contributed to policy formulation and institutional governance.

She joined the College in 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become Chief Lecturer in 2011. Over the years, she has held several strategic positions, including Dean, School of Sciences; Director of Academic Planning and Statistics; Coordinator of the Pre-NCE Programme; Acting Dean, School of Sciences; and Head of the Department of Chemistry Education at different periods.

Dr. Ejezie has also chaired and served on more than 40 committees and has over 40 academic publications in local and international journals. Her administrative experience extends to union leadership and academic quality assurance. She previously served as Vice Chairman of the College chapter of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) and has participated in accreditation exercises for the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) as a resource person and external examiner.

An alumna of Girls High School, Ihite, she obtained her Nigeria Certificate in Education in Biology/Chemistry from the College of Education, Nsugbe, now Nwafor Orizu College of Education.

She later earned a degree in Chemistry Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and obtained a PhD in Science Education from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

In addition to her academic qualifications, she also holds postgraduate qualifications in Business Administration and Management.

She belongs to several professional bodies, including the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), and the Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE).

Through the ranks

The newly appointed Registrar, Mr. Eze Joachim, previously served as Congregation Representative of the non-teaching staff in the Governing Council and was Deputy Registrar in charge of the Admissions Unit before his elevation.

He joined the institution in 1996 as an Administrative Officer and rose to the position of Deputy Registrar through years of service.

Eze has served on several committees of the College and received a commendation award in 2001 as the best staff member in the Students’ Affairs Unit. He also chairs the Board of Trustees of the Senior Staff Welfare Association of the institution.

He studied Sociology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and later obtained a Professional Diploma in Education from FCE(T) Umunze and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Imo State University.

College System

Before his appointment as Bursar, Mr. Oguegbulu Philip served as Deputy Bursar of the College. He joined the institution in 2003 as an Accountant and rose to the rank of Deputy Bursar in 2025.

Oguegbulu holds academic qualifications in Accountancy, Management, Education, and Business Education from institutions including Federal Polytechnic, Oko; the University of Calabar; Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto; ESUT; and Imo State University. He is also a Certified National Accountant under the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).

Librarian

The newly appointed Librarian, Mr. Ameh Shaibu, was formerly Chief Librarian at the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu. Mr. Ameh rose to the position of Chief Librarian in 2022.

He began his career in 1995 at Arewa House, Centre for Historical Research and Documentation, Ahmadu Bello University, before later joining the Kogi State Teaching Service Board and subsequently FCE Eha-Amufu in 2006.

A native of Akpanya in Kogi State, he studied Library Science and History at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and later obtained a Master of Library and Information Science degree. He is a member of professional bodies, including the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.
